At Durham Stallions Baseball, we break the mold by offering a first class baseball development program with access to top-notch American and International competition. This approach has allowed us to create the premier baseball development program in the country. We do this by having the best facilities, best equipment, best coaching and access to unmatched opportunities. Our focus is on developing student and professional athletes who excel both on and off the field. We subscribe to a winning culture that promotes growth in sports and life, ensuring our players are prepared for future opportunities well beyond the diamond.
The focus of our program is the long-term athletic development of each player. We operate using development to reach an end goal for all players, which is to provide the opportunity for our players to become collegiate and/or professional baseball players. We will also provide them with the tools necessary to be successful in life well after their baseball careers are over. This is accomplished by using 100% of their funds towards this development, which also includes academic support (OCT tutors with study hall on the road) and financial education seminars.
How can we accomplish this unprecedented goal? By operating as an organization and playing in a league that both don’t require overhead fees. Our “Kids First” mandate assures that their development is our single focus; on the field, in the classroom and beyond.
A. We will be the only team in Ontario that owns our own turf field. Most programs are at the mercy of permits and weather which can play havoc on development opportunities for players. We will never have to stop training or playing because a local municipality has cancelled a permit. Our turf field will allow us to continue to train while extending training seasons by starting in April and ending in November.
B. We own our own facilities and the land they occupy. Our primary facility gives a MLB style opportunity as it is located directly beside our future field. If we experience inclement weather, we simply move inside to our 12,000 square foot indoor practice facility and continue to train. Along with our primary facility in the Durham Region, we also own facilities in the Niagara Region and Aruba.
C. We own a Mobile Baseball Training Facility that travels with our teams. This includes batting cages, pitching mounds, pitching machines, hitting and throwing training equipment, and our own field maintenance equipment and crew.
D. Our facility is outfitted with plyo walls, mounds, hitting/pitching tunnels, Jr. and programmable hack attacks, professional grade weight room, and player’s clubhouse. We are also working towards having Canada’s first onsite baseball biomechanics lab.
We have equipped all our facilities and fields with trackman systems. Our league, Program-15, uses this data through Synergy video systems to directly connect this necessary data to MLB Central Scouting and NCAA recruiters. Scouts from anywhere in the world can click on a statistical notification and tune into a live stream of the play and game.
Our program has full-time coaches with a proven history of developing high-performance players at the provincial, national, collegiate, and professional level. Our coaches continually challenge the players to be the best versions of themselves both on and off the field. Using player development as the lens through which all decisions and plans are made, our players gain the confidence to compete and succeed in any situation that presents itself.
We also maintain manageable coach to player ratios to ensure development. We pride ourselves in maximizing each player’s “time on task” to ensure their opportunity to get better. For example, our weight room will operate with a 1:4 ratio at all times, meaning our kids see proper development and supervision while lifting. We will never have 16-20 players in a weight room with one coach. That is unsafe and unproductive.
We are genuinely excited to be involved with the Future Stars Series. https://futurestarsseries.com/ It will provide us with necessary local competition in May and June to keep costs affordable. The true advantage of this league is access to the highest-quality tournaments and competition in-front of top scouts and recruiters. Ontario leagues have the disadvantage of too many teams watering down competition, too much travel jacking up costs, and inconsistent weather. Future Stars Series addresses all these concerns by operating a small league to keep competition high, accessible travel to keep costs down, and access to the best tournaments in front of high-end scouts and recruiters.
Program-15 also broadcasts league games on Synergy with trackman data so scouts and recruiters have access to our players at all times. The Future Stars Series CEO, Jeremy Booth, has unlimited connections in the MLB and NCAA which our players will have access to. Mr. Booth has over 20 years of experience authored the internationally acclaimed book, "Inside The Mind of a Scout: What Every Parent Wishes They Knew About The Major League Scouting Process."
On top of all of this, we will have access to our own training facility in Aruba while having access to play their National teams. We will be using this to supplement our already loaded schedule.
Building a culture is difficult. Universities and MLB teams have the luxury of being around each other for extended periods of time to help foster these environments. Our goal is to provide something that has been impossible to mimic in Ontario; a Big-League Experience. Each of our players have access to their own locker, games room, weight room, training facility, and players’ lounge 24/7/365. This will help foster the type of positive team culture that creates overall organizational excellence.
Our players will have financial learning opportunities to become actively involved in creating budgets, planning travel, logistics, and management. They can be involved in creating an organizational and team charter that gives our athletes a voice in organizational governance.
Our ownership of facilities and fields provides both community service opportunities as well as employment opportunities for our players. They can be involved with camps and training programs for local youth players outside of our program. We subscribe to the principle of, "Once a Stallion...Always a Stallion.” The access to our facilities extends well beyond the player's time as a Stallions player. Stallions will always be welcome back to the facility and fields for life.
Our program has a lot of advantages that are unprecedented in Ontario. Our biggest advantage will be keeping costs down while providing more opportunities. We do not charge league fees and have zero overhead and administrative costs. One hundred percent of the funds go to the players' development and experiences. Not only do we not have to charge the overhead fees that exist in all other leagues, we have a very strong network of significant financial backers, ensuring the long term sustainability of the program.
Our one of a kind, "Net Zero Cost Player Program," allows our players to take advantage of sponsorship and fundraising programs. This program, made available to every player, provides the opportunity to play as a Stallion without it costing anything.
